Hidden Scrunch Leggings: Everything You Want to Know

🍑 What are hidden scrunch leggings?

Hidden scrunch leggings are leggings that contour your booty, but in a way that is invisible from the outside.

In 2021, Paragon created the first hidden scrunch leggings that are completely invisible on or off your body. They have exploded in popularity since.

Regular scrunch leggings contour your booty, but have an obvious fabric gathering in the back that looks pretty "out there". Hidden scrunch leggings give you the same contouring, but without the gathering. This is done by drawing the rear seam into your booty, which separates your cheeks & sculpts your bum.

The idea came to us during a #legday at the gym. We realized that our booty just looks better when there’s some separation of the cheeks. We experimented with a few different ways of creating this in our leggings, and eventually discovered a method that:

• ☁️ is more comfortable than anything else out there

We decided to call it Sculptseam™. While regular scrunch leggings can have the “baboon butt” effect (😂), Sculptseam™ leggings offer amazing booty contouring in a low-profile way. We want our bums to look great, we just don’t necessarily want a billboard over them. Some people also call it “invisible scrunch”, or “secret scrunch”.

🤷‍♀️ Are hidden scrunch leggings uncomfortable?

It depends on how they’re made. Traditional scrunch leggings can give you a pretty major wedgie feeling, which can be uncomfortable - especially when doing lower body exercises like squats or deadlifts. We’re not about that.

When we were creating Sculptseam™, comfort was a priority. We discovered a new way to create separation between the cheeks that doesn’t result in discomfort during daily wear or training sessions at the gym. It’s an aesthetic boost without a comfort cost. We think within the next few years, everyone will be trying to do this!

That said, it’s important to keep in mind that a really comfortable legging has a lot more to do with fabric, silhouette, and seam style. All of those play an important role in booty shaping too. If compromises are made with the materials & design, it’s not going to be activewear you reach for. 🙋‍♀️ What kind of underwear is best for hidden scrunch leggings?

Because the rear seam is meant to go between your booty cheeks, it’s best to wear a thong (seamless is best, and neutral colored if you have lighter leggings) or to go commando.

If you wear something with greater coverage, the rear seam won't be able to do it's job as well of defining your cheeks.

🧵 How is the hidden scrunch made?

Hidden scrunch can be added to leggings in at least two ways.

Method 1:

Taking a stretchy rubber strip, and while stretching it out, sewing it into a serged rear seam

This is how traditional scrunch leggings are made. When the rubber contracts, it gathers the fabric and creates the scrunch. How much you stretch the rubber determines the amount of scrunch. Usually brands doing this are going for a big scrunch, but it has been used to create small scrunches that become invisible once on. This method has been around for a while & it works but it doesn’t offer as much contouring or comfort as our method.

Method 2 (Sculptseam™):

Taking a knitted elastic band, and without stretching it out, sewing it on top of a flatlock rear seam

After researching how scrunches are made, we discovered that knitted elastic is a better choice than rubber for contouring and durability. We use flatlock seams, which are more expensive than serged seams, but much more comfortable. We found that sewing the elastic on top of our flatlock seams gave us the best performance. We brought this all together into our unique product: Sculptseam™, which offers maximum booty contouring, maximum comfort, and complete invisibility from the outside.
